The Fraternity of St. Peter came to the Diocese of St. Catharines in the late 1990s to minister to an already well-established Traditional Latin Mass community. Now having a full-time priest—and more regular celebration of Holy Mass, the sacraments, devotions, and classes—the community was consolidated and grew. It soon acquired a tiny church and called it Queen of Angels Oratory in St. Catharines. From this place, Latin Mass communities in other cities would be fostered, including London, Kitchener, and Toronto. The allure of a country setting with more elbow room fuelled a move in 2011 to a mission church in Thorold South called St. Aloysius. The Latin Mass community was erected as a non-territorial parish in the diocese called Queen of Angels–St. Aloysius Parish. In January 2021, the parish acquired the services of a second full-time priest with high hopes of development and God’s blessings for the future.
The Priestly Fraternity of St. Peter (FSSP) is a Society of Apostolic Life of the Roman Catholic Church. It was founded in 1988 in response to the need to maintain the Traditional Latin Mass and related treasures of the Church in the modern world. Currently, the Fraternity has been blessed with over 300 priests and 170 seminarians and operates in 146 dioceses around the globe. The average age of the members is 38. The Fraternity only operates in a diocese with the approbation of the local bishop.
